A man arrested in connection with the death of a 37-year-old woman was taken into custody while wearing a hoodie that drew immediate attention for its unsettling message.
On Thursday, Jan. 15, authorities arrested Kruz Dean Wanser after what the Azle Police Department described as “the suspicious death” of Margaret Pennington. Pennington was found inside a residence in Azle, Texas, on Jan. 11, according to a news release from the department.
Wanser is currently being held on multiple charges, including tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and a parole violation.
In his booking photo, Wanser wore a blue hoodie with white lettering across the front. The message read: “I will put you in a trunk and help people look for you,” with the words “Stop playing with me” written beneath in italics.

Police said Wanser was arrested in coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division, the Texas Rangers, the United States Marshalls, and the Parker County Special Crimes Unit.
“At this time, [Pennington’s] cause of death is still pending,” police said, adding that the case remains open. Investigators are urging anyone with information related to Pennington’s death to contact the Azle Police Department at 817-444-3221.
In a previous public information request shared on Facebook, police said Wanser was “a person of interest in a suspicious death investigation.” Officers have not confirmed Wanser’s relationship to Pennington or whether he is being treated as a suspect in her death.
An online obituary posted by Forest Meadows Funeral Home in Gainsville, Fla. — where Pennington was born — described her as “deeply loved by her family and friends.”

“Margaret had a creative and sentimental spirit. She found comfort in baking, crocheting, enjoyed music, had a keen interest in genealogy, and loved collecting vintage treasures that carried history and meaning,” the obituary stated.
It added that she valued time with loved ones and was known for her “spunky personality, quick wit, and unmistakable sense of humor,” noting that “though small in stature, she had a strong presence and a way of leaving an impression on those who knew her.”
The Azle Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for additional information.
