A high-stakes political rally in Kentucky took an unexpected turn Wednesday when a medical emergency in the crowd prompted an immediate response from Dr. Mehmet Oz. The incident, occurring during President Donald Trump’s address to supporters, highlights the recurring role the CMS Administrator has played as a first responder during the President’s second term.

Emergency in the Risers

The medical episode began while President Trump was delivering remarks focused on California Governor Gavin Newsom at an event in Hebron. The momentum of the speech was halted when attendees positioned behind the President began gesturing frantically and calling for medical assistance.

Trump, 79, paused his delivery to address the situation. “Do we have a doctor in the house? A doctor?” the President asked, as the crowd pointed toward an attendee who had collapsed on the risers.

As first responders moved toward the woman, Trump called for patience from the audience. “Yeah, take your time, please,” he said. “We have all the time… These are great people.”

A Familiar First Responder

Dr. Mehmet Oz, currently serving as the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), was seen joining the medical team on the floor. This is not the first time the heart surgeon-turned-official has transitioned from politician to practitioner in the President’s presence. In November 2025, Oz provided similar assistance when a man collapsed in the Oval Office during a press conference.

On Wednesday, Oz assisted in stabilizing the attendee. While the medical team worked, the President praised the efforts of the emergency staff and briefly suggested playing “Ave Maria” to calm the atmosphere.

The woman was eventually assisted to her feet, appearing to recover quickly. She smiled and waved to the President, who responded by pumping his fist in the air.

“It’s Dr. Oz!” Trump announced to the crowd once the situation was under control. “Can you believe it? Dr. Oz! And he’s a good doctor. Thank you, Oz.”

Political Context: The Battle for Kentucky’s 4th

The rally served a dual purpose, functioning as both a visit to a local packing plant and a strategic endorsement of Ed Gallrein.

Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL, is challenging seven-term incumbent Rep. Thomas Massie for the Republican nomination in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District. The primary challenge stems from Massie’s high-profile opposition to the “Big Beautiful Bill,” a cornerstone of the Trump administration’s current legislative agenda.

The President’s visit to Hebron signals a continued effort to primary Republicans who have deviated from the administration’s platform, using his “Make America Great Again” rallies to consolidate party loyalty ahead of the upcoming election cycle.
