Joseph Duggar, a former star of the TLC reality franchise, has confessed to molesting a 9-year-old girl during a recorded phone call involving a police detective and the victim’s father, according to investigative affidavits obtained from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).

The 30-year-old father of four now faces a charge of lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12. Florida authorities are currently preparing to extradite Duggar from the Washington County Detention Center in Arkansas to face arraignment.

The Confession and Investigation

The criminal investigation gained momentum after a forensic interview with the victim—now 14—conducted at the Tontitown Police Department. According to the affidavit filed by BCSO Investigator Chase Norris, the incidents occurred in 2020 while the victim’s family was vacationing in Panama City Beach.

The victim alleged that Duggar repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap and eventually escalated to pulling up her dress and touching her thighs under a blanket. The minor stated his hand “grazed” her vagina on several occasions, leaving her “uncomfortable and confused.”

Following these allegations, Investigator Norris requested a monitored call between the victim’s father, a detective, and Duggar. During that March 17 conversation, the affidavit states Duggar “admitted his actions,” specifically that he touched the minor and that his “intentions were not pure.”

The molestation charge is not the only legal firestorm facing the Duggar family. On Friday, March 20, authorities announced that both Joseph and his wife, Kendra Duggar, were charged with:

  • Four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
  • Four counts of false imprisonment.

Details regarding these additional state charges remain limited, though they mark a significant escalation in the legal scrutiny surrounding the couple’s household.

A Pattern of Criminal Conduct

Joseph Duggar is the second son of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar to face criminal charges. In 2021, his eldest brother, Josh Duggar, was convicted on federal charges of receiving and possessing child abuse material (CSAM). Josh is currently serving a 12-year sentence in a Texas federal prison.

Joseph Duggar rose to prominence on the long-running TLC series 19 Kids and Counting and its spin-off Counting On. His 2017 wedding to Kendra was a featured event on the network.

As of press time, representatives for the Duggar family have not issued a formal statement regarding the confession or the pending extradition.
