Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie is reportedly “livid” and considering legal action following televised allegations suggesting her family’s involvement in the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. Despite media speculation, law enforcement officials have confirmed that no family members are currently suspects or persons of interest in the ongoing investigation.

Nancy Guthrie, 82, vanished from her Tucson home on February 1 in what investigators have classified as a suspected abduction. The case has drawn intense national scrutiny, leading to a wave of unsubstantiated theories regarding the Guthrie family’s internal dynamics.

Investigation Remains Focused on External Leads

The controversy intensified after journalist Ashleigh Banfield reported that Guthrie’s brother-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, was potentially a suspect. The claim was reportedly based on a single law-enforcement source, citing that Cioni and his wife, Annie Guthrie, were among the last people to see Nancy Guthrie alive after dropping her off following a family dinner.

However, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has moved to systematically debunk these claims. In multiple statements, the Sheriff’s Department emphasized:

  • No family members are under investigation.
  • No persons of interest have been officially identified.
  • Forensic evidence gathered at the scene does not currently point to any domestic involvement.

The allegations have sparked a fierce reaction from the NBC anchor, who has remained off-air since the disappearance to focus on the search. On a recent broadcast of The Megyn Kelly Show, commentator Megyn Kelly reported that Guthrie is exploring legal options against those disseminating “baseless” claims.

“Savannah is livid about that report and definitely does not suspect her brother-in-law,” Kelly stated, noting that Guthrie is fiercely protective of her sister’s family during the crisis.

Search Efforts Continue

While the legal tension mounts, the primary focus remains the recovery of Nancy Guthrie. Savannah Guthrie has utilized her social media platforms to maintain public awareness, sharing emotional pleas for information.

Authorities continue to urge anyone with information regarding the early hours of February 1 in the Tucson area to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. As of March 21, the investigation remains an active missing persons and suspected kidnapping case.
