Trump Claims His ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Will Save 2 Billion Farms — Despite There Only Being 1.9 Million in the U.S.

At a fiery Independence Day celebration in Iowa, President Donald Trump made headlines again — this time for declaring that his sweeping tax bill would save “over 2 billion family farms” from the estate tax, despite the U.S. having fewer than 2 million such farms in total.

“Very importantly for Iowa,” Trump told the cheering crowd at the “Salute to America” event, “this bill rescues over 2 billion family farms from the so-called estate tax or death tax.” According to agriculture lender AGAmerica, there are approximately 1.9 million family farms in the entire country.

The exaggerated claim drew instant reactions online. “2 billion farms? What planet is he rescuing them from?” one X user posted. Another joked, “Guess we’re helping farmers in Mars, too.”

The president’s comments came as part of a broader defense of his controversial “Big, Beautiful Bill,” a $3.4 trillion tax and spending package that includes deep cuts to programs like Medicaid and food assistance. He also repeated a misleading claim: “We’re delivering no tax on Social Security.”

While Trump has repeatedly said the bill eliminates Social Security taxes, the actual legislation does no such thing. Instead, it includes a temporary deduction — not an exemption — for seniors over 65. The Senate version offers a $6,000 deduction for individuals ($12,000 for married couples), while the House proposes $4,000. The deduction would only last from 2025 to 2029 and wouldn’t benefit many low-income seniors who already pay no taxes on Social Security, nor those under 65 or over a certain income threshold.

The Iowa event, organized by the bipartisan America250 Commission, marked the kickoff to a yearlong celebration leading up to the nation’s 250th birthday in July 2026. Trump used the occasion to take a political victory lap — and a few swings at his opponents.

“Iowa voted for me THREE TIMES,” Trump exclaimed in a Truth Social post, referring to the 2016 and 2020 elections, plus the 2024 rematch he won. “They love my policies for our wonderful farmers and small businesses, and they LOVE AMERICA!”

The event featured patriotic music — including some eyebrow-raising pop selections from Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, known Democratic supporters — and ended with Trump dancing to his signature “YMCA” anthem. Melania Trump joined him for part of the celebration, mimicking his dance moves and sharing a moment that many supporters called “iconic.”

Trump is positioning himself as the face of the nation’s milestone events — including the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics — all during his second term. At a Memorial Day event in May, he remarked, “Can you imagine? I missed that four years and now look what I have. I have everything. Amazing the way things work out. God did that. I believe that too.”

While his flair for showmanship remains unchanged, the president’s factual accuracy continues to draw scrutiny — especially from critics who say his sweeping claims on taxes, farming, and even global events are more style than substance.
