A newborn baby boy was discovered dead beneath leaves behind a public housing complex in Brooklyn, authorities said.
Police responded to a 911 call on Thursday morning reporting an unconscious infant located behind the New York City Housing Authority’s Bay View Houses in the Canarsie neighborhood, an NYPD spokesperson said.
“When officers arrived, they were told an unidentified male newborn had been found unconscious and unresponsive,” the spokesperson stated.
Emergency medical crews arrived soon after and pronounced the baby dead at the scene. The infant has not yet been identified, and no arrests have been made.
According to reports from PIX11, the New York Daily News and NBC New York, the baby was found inside a black bag placed under a pile of leaves. An autopsy will be conducted to determine how and when he died.
The investigation remains ongoing.
