A woman says she’s been left anxious after a close friend demanded she pay to mail several suitcases to her new home abroad.
Sharing her story on Mumsnet, the woman explained that she agreed to store her friend’s luggage temporarily because it was too much to carry on an international flight. Once her friend was settled overseas, she researched shipping options and sent over several quotes — but that’s when things took an unexpected turn.
“She’s got extremely angry and upset, claiming that I should pay,” the woman wrote. “She offered me less than half the cost because that’s all she has in her bank account here, but isn’t offering to transfer more from abroad.”
The woman said her friend insists she promised to cover the expense — something she says never happened. “I was mortified when I found out she thought I was paying!” she added.

According to her post, the friend has accused her of being “disorganized” for not already sending the items and even implied she was trying to steal them. Despite multiple apologies for any confusion, the woman said her friend continued to lash out and called her a liar.
The conflict left her so distressed that she briefly blocked her friend just to calm down before heading to work.
“For reference, it’s over $200 to send, and she offered me around $60,” she wrote. “I’m a single mom of two, living and working abroad, while she’s single, has no kids, and lives rent-free in her family home.”
“I’m shocked she not only thought I’d pay but got so aggressive when I said I couldn’t afford to!” she continued. The woman added that she offered to forward the luggage to another friend, but that person is currently out of the country and also believes the friend should pay — meaning the bags might remain unclaimed.

“What would you do?” she asked readers.
Commenters overwhelmingly sided with her.
“I’d give her a deadline to send the money, and if she doesn’t, donate the clothes to charity,” one person advised.
“Wow! She knows she’s in the wrong but hopes to bully you into paying,” another wrote. “Stand your ground.”
Others encouraged her to cut ties altogether. “Tell her she’s lucky you’re not charging storage fees,” one user said. “Block and drop this friendship — you don’t need someone like that in your life.”
