Amanda Knox returned to Italy in 2022 to confront the prosecutor involved in the case that sent her to prison — a tense homecoming now captured in a new documentary directed by her husband.
Knox, whose murder conviction and eventual exoneration sparked a global media frenzy, is the focus of the upcoming Hulu documentary Mouth of the Wolf: Amanda Knox Returns to Italy, which follows her back to the country where she was once incarcerated.
In 2008, Knox — then an American student studying in Italy — was convicted in the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher, a British student who was sexually assaulted and then killed the year before.
Knox and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were treated as the central suspects. Both were later exonerated and freed.
Rudy Guede was convicted of the murder in 2008 after traces of his DNA were found at the scene.
After her release, Knox rebuilt her life, working as a writer and activist. She has two children with her husband, Christopher Robinson, whom she married in 2020.

Robinson directed Mouth of the Wolf, which — according to a press release — offers audiences unprecedented access to Knox’s story.
The documentary, which premieres on Hulu and Disney+ on Monday, Jan. 26, follows Knox as she travels to speak at an Italy Innocence Project conference. The trip culminates in a face-to-face meeting with Giuliano Mignini, the prosecutor who pursued her case nearly two decades ago.
Knox’s conviction was overturned, and she was released from an Italian prison in 2011. She was fully exonerated in 2015.
Guede was originally sentenced to 30 years in prison, though that term was later reduced to 16 years on appeal. He was released three years early in 2021, the Associated Press reported.
In 2025, Hulu released a limited series about the case titled The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, in which she was portrayed by Grace Van Patten.
