Amy Schumer is offering more insight into how her health struggles shaped her recent weight loss.

On Monday, Dec. 1, the 44-year-old comedian posted an Instagram Reel filmed by her 6-year-old son, Gene, whom she shares with her husband, Chris Fischer.

The clip starts with Schumer relaxing in bed before Gene turns the camera on their home, giving followers a casual tour of different rooms. Over the video, Schumer added on-screen text addressing lingering “questions” about how she lost weight.

She clarified that she doesn’t use Botox or filler and that, contrary to reports saying she lost 30 lbs., she actually lost 50. “Not to look hot which does feel fun and temporary,” she wrote. “I did it to survive.”

Schumer explained that she had been dealing with a serious medical condition that caused intense facial puffiness and could be life-threatening — an apparent reference to her Cushing syndrome diagnosis. She noted that “the internet caught it” and that the condition has since resolved.

Cushing syndrome occurs when the body is exposed to excess cortisol, the main stress hormone. According to the Mayo Clinic, it can cause weight gain (especially in the midsection), a rounded or fuller face, high blood pressure and more pronounced stretch marks.

Addressing reactions to her changed appearance, Schumer added, “Sorry for whatever feeling it’s giving you that I lost that weight.” She reiterated that she has had plastic surgery “over the years” and currently uses Mounjaro, adding, “Sorry to anyone that lets down.”

Despite the scrutiny, she said the biggest change for her is how she feels day-to-day. Schumer shared that she is now “pain free” and able to “play tag” with Gene.

She also touched on her experience with perimenopause, which she previously revealed in February 2024 alongside her endometriosis diagnosis. “Happy to share if anyone has any questions about how I’m looking or feeling or where I am in my perimenopause process,” she wrote.

Perimenopause is the transition phase before menopause when estrogen levels begin to drop. The Cleveland Clinic notes that it can bring on symptoms similar to menopause — such as hot flashes, mood changes and irregular periods — and can last for several years.

Schumer went on to address speculation about her marriage to Fischer.

“Whatever ends up happening with Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism,” she wrote, referencing her husband’s autism diagnosis. “Fingers crossed we can make it through, he’s the best.”

In November, a source said that Schumer and Fischer, 45, remain committed to their relationship despite outside speculation, explaining that they are privately working through the kinds of challenges many long-term couples face and that both are invested in making things work.

Her latest Reel isn’t the first time she has responded publicly to rumors. On Nov. 6, she shared a photo of New York City on her Instagram Story and praised Hulu’s new series All’s Fair, casually adding in the caption that she and Chris are “still married.”

Schumer has also spoken before about how her weight loss journey has affected her. In October, she posted on Instagram that she was “feeling strong” and more like herself, writing that while she was enjoying how she looked, “it is all about how you feel.”
