An Ohio woman has been formally charged in connection with the 2022 death of her 10-month-old daughter.

Daisha Somers, 27, was indicted on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025, on multiple charges: murder, involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, corrupting another with drugs, child endangerment, and aggravated possession of drugs, according to a news release from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

Authorities arrested Somers in West Virginia on Friday, Dec. 19, before extraditing her back to Ohio on Tuesday, Dec. 23.

The case dates back to Nov. 20, 2022, when Somers’ daughter, Ka’myla, was taken to a hospital with what officials described as “severe head trauma,” according to the attorney general’s office.

In a prior press release dated Nov. 30, 2022, the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office said investigators who responded to the incident noted extensive bruising to the infant’s face and head. Investigators also believed the child’s skull had been fractured, and she was not breathing on her own.

Ka’myla was placed on life support and later transported by medical helicopter to the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Trauma Center in Columbus. She died three days later, on Nov. 23.

According to the sheriff’s office, Somers and her boyfriend initially told investigators they heard a loud “thud” early that morning and later found the child had fallen from her toddler bed and hit her head. The sheriff’s office said 911 was not called at that time.

Officials said the boyfriend later changed his account, alleging he found Ka’myla unresponsive and not breathing while Somers was doing laundry at another location.

Somers also allegedly told investigators during interviews that she had smoked methamphetamine, according to the sheriff’s office release.

Investigators said their findings did not align with the explanation that the infant fell from a toddler bed. The release stated that the child’s injuries included about seven skull fractures, stomach bleeding, blood in her urine, retinal hemorrhages, multiple strokes, and prolonged cardiac arrest.

Somers and her boyfriend were initially suspected of child endangerment in 2022, but those allegations were dismissed pending possible grand jury indictment, The Logan Daily News reported. As of Tuesday, Dec. 23, he has not been charged.

Somers has not yet entered a plea.
