Barron Trump was expected to return to New York University’s Greenwich Village campus on Tuesday, Sept. 2, to start his second year at the Stern School of Business — but he didn’t show up.
Campus security officers told PEOPLE that the 19-year-old son of President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump has not been seen at NYU’s main campus since the fall semester began.
“From what I was told,” one officer said, “he’s doing a semester at another NYU campus.”
Officials would not share details about which campus he may be attending, citing privacy concerns. NYU operates as a global network with several degree-granting campuses outside Manhattan, including Downtown Brooklyn, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai. The university also has learning centers in cities like Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., where Barron’s parents are currently based.
Stern also offers the International Business Exchange Program with partner colleges abroad, though it is usually available to juniors and seniors.
PEOPLE contacted the first lady’s office, which handles inquiries about the Trump family, as well as NYU officials for more information.
Last year, Barron relocated from Palm Beach, Fla., to Trump Tower in Manhattan so he could be closer to campus. He completed his freshman year at NYU in May, but his summer was anything but typical.
According to a social source, Barron spent much of the summer traveling between Trump family properties while working on business ventures. He reportedly met with business partners, explored tech projects, and began laying the groundwork for his own company.

“Barron has been actively working on his financial interests and spending time with people connected to those projects,” the source said. The source also noted that he spent a “great deal of time” with his family.
In May, rumors began circulating about Barron’s dating life after a fellow NYU student told NewsNation that he “has a really nice girlfriend and hangs out with her a lot.” No further details were provided, and PEOPLE has been unable to confirm the claim.
The last time his family addressed the topic was during his freshman year, when President Trump told podcast host Patrick Bet-David that, “I don’t think he’s had a girlfriend yet.”
Almost a year later, PEOPLE’s source said they also haven’t heard much about Barron dating, adding, “I don’t think that’s a big deal in his life right now. He has school, a family who supports him, and a career he’s beginning to launch.”
As Barron continues his studies, Melania remains protective of him. A political source told PEOPLE in August that the first lady is “constantly watching Barron to make sure nobody bothers him or bullies him. She always knows where he is and what he’s doing.”
During his freshman year, another source confirmed Barron would not be living in campus housing. “[Melania] will do everything she can to make sure Barron succeeds in school and adjusts socially and mentally,” the source said, adding that dorm life wasn’t “in the stars” for him “at this point.”
