Barron Trump was expected to return to New York University’s Greenwich Village campus on Tuesday, Sept. 2, to start his second year at the Stern School of Business — but he didn’t show up.

Multiple campus security officers say the 19-year-old son of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump has not been on NYU’s main campus since fall classes began.

“From what I was told,” one officer told PEOPLE, “he’s doing a semester at another NYU campus.”

Officials did not give details about which campus he might have transferred to, citing privacy concerns. NYU has campuses around the world, including Downtown Brooklyn, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai, and learning centers in places like Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., where his parents currently live.

Stern also has the International Business Exchange Program with partner schools abroad, though it’s usually for juniors and seniors.

PEOPLE reached out to the First Lady’s office, which handles questions about the Trump family, and NYU officials for more information.

Barron moved from Palm Beach, Florida, to Trump Tower in Manhattan last year to live closer to NYU’s Greenwich Village campus.

Although he finished his freshman year in May, he didn’t spend the summer relaxing. A source told PEOPLE that Barron spent most of his summer traveling between family properties and working on future business plans. He has met with business partners, developed tech projects, and set up deals to start his own company.

“Barron has been actively working on his own financial interests and has spent time with others he is involved with in that area,” the source said.

The teen also spent a lot of time with his family, the source added.

In May, rumors about Barron dating someone began circulating after an anonymous “friend” on campus told NewsNation that the first son “has a really nice girlfriend and hangs out with her a lot.” PEOPLE could not confirm the claim.

The last time the Trump family commented on Barron’s romantic life was one month into his freshman year, when Donald Trump told podcast host Patrick Bet-David, “I don’t think he’s had a girlfriend yet.”

Nearly a year later, PEOPLE’s source said they haven’t heard anything new about Barron dating, but added, “I don’t think that’s a big deal in his life right now.”

“He has school, a family who cares about him, and a career he is starting,” the source said.

Melania Trump is known to watch Barron closely. A political source told PEOPLE in August that Melania “watches Barron constantly to make sure nobody messes with him or bullies him, as this is a constant worry with her.”

“She always knows where he is and what he’s doing,” the source added.

During Barron’s freshman year, a PEOPLE source said he would likely stay out of campus housing for now.

“[Melania] will do everything she can to make sure Barron does well in school and is socially and mentally adjusted to college life,” the source said, adding that dorm living isn’t “in the stars” for Barron “at this point.”
