Former President Joe Biden claimed Wednesday that he’s been receiving calls from European leaders urging him to re-engage on the global stage, even as he remains largely out of the public eye.
Speaking at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) conference in San Diego, Biden reflected on life after the presidency in a keynote conversation with SHRM CEO Johnny Taylor. The discussion was later shared online by Democratic strategist Chris Jackson.
“I’m getting calls,” Biden said. “I’m not going to go into it, I can’t, from a number of European leaders asking me to get engaged.” He clarified that he’s not formally involved in international affairs but is still offering advice behind the scenes. “Because things are different,” he added, referencing the global landscape under President Trump’s administration.
Biden suggested he’s still in contact with both Democratic and Republican lawmakers. “I’m not out there publicly doing a lot of this,” he said. “But I’m also dealing with a lot of Democrats and Republican colleagues… They’re not looking for answers, they just want to bounce things off me.”
He also revealed he’s deep into writing a memoir—something he said every president is expected to do—describing the project as a 500-page undertaking due by March.
While Biden has mostly stayed out of the spotlight since leaving office, his recent public appearances have drawn mixed reactions—including frustration from some within his own party who feel his time on the stage should be over.
Still, Biden insists he hasn’t fully stepped away: “How can you just walk away?” he asked.Tools
