President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance were reportedly not invited to the memorial service for former Vice President Richard B. Cheney at the National Cathedral. Cheney, 84, died from pneumonia along with heart and vascular complications. Around 1,000 guests were invited to the private ceremony.
Organizers indicated that former Presidents George W. Bush and Joe Biden, former Vice Presidents Kamala Harris, Mike Pence and Al Gore, as well as several Supreme Court justices, were expected to attend.
Bush remembered Cheney as a “calm and steady presence,” calling him “among the finest public servants of his generation.”
Cheney’s decision to back Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race further strained his relationship with Trump’s allies. At the time, he said, “We have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution.”
In 2024, Trump wrote, “The Democrats made a BIG mistake in getting Crazy Liz Chaney, and her father, Dick, involved in their campaign for President.”
He continued, “It made the Republicans angry, and the Democrats just plain scratching their heads in amazement. It is always a bad idea to bring ‘losers’ into a political campaign!”
