Brad Pitt has filed a $35 million lawsuit against ex-wife Angelina Jolie as their long-running dispute over the French estate Château Miraval continues to escalate, according to newly filed court documents.

Court Filings and Allegations

On Oct. 29, Pitt’s legal team submitted evidence including communications between both parties regarding Jolie’s 2021 sale of her stake in the winery they once co-owned. Among the exhibits was a November 2023 email from Jolie’s attorneys responding to Pitt’s latest claims, which allegedly seek millions in damages.

“The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation—he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages,” wrote Jolie’s lawyers at the time. “As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages.”

Another email, dated October 2023, indicated that Pitt was “seeking ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations.”

Jolie’s attorneys further accused Pitt of refusing to turn over records “relating to the reasons why he needed his four-year NDA covering his personal misconduct,” saying those materials go “to the heart of our case and must be produced.”

Non-Disclosure Agreement Dispute

Pitt’s side has previously claimed that less than six months after Jolie sold her shares, her lawyer suggested a broader mutual non-disparagement clause during their divorce proceedings.

Pitt originally filed suit in 2022, alleging Jolie sold her share of Miraval to Tenute del Mondo, the wine division of the Stoli Group, without his consent — despite what he says was an agreement requiring mutual approval. Jolie denied any such deal existed and filed a countersuit, claiming Pitt had been “waging a vindictive war against” her.

Her filing further asserted that Pitt refused to buy out her share unless she signed an NDA “designed to force her silence about his abuse and cover-up,” referencing the 2016 private jet incident in which the actor allegedly behaved abusively toward his family. (Pitt was not charged, and Jolie chose not to pursue charges.)

Jolie has recently claimed attorney–client privilege in withholding certain documents. Pitt’s attorneys argue those materials are relevant to the sale and have asked the court to compel her to produce 22 specific documents.

The next public hearing in the case is set for Dec. 17.

Statements from Jolie’s Attorney

In a statement, Jolie’s lawyer Paul Murphy said, “Mr. Pitt’s reply brief does not address our arguments and continues to rely on conjecture and speculation — all for the purpose of invading her privileged communications with her lawyers. This once again confirms that this lawsuit is the manifestation of Mr. Pitt’s years-long effort to harass and control Angelina. We look forward to the upcoming hearing.”

Their Family and Background

The former couple share six children — Maddox, 24; Pax, 21; Zahara, 20; Shiloh, 19; and twins Vivienne and Knox, 17. They separated in 2016 after 12 years together and finalized their divorce in December 2024.
