A bride-to-be turned to Reddit for advice after she refused to invite her maid of honor’s boyfriend to her upcoming wedding — a decision that’s caused major friction within her family.
She explained that her reasoning stemmed from a long, uncomfortable history with the man, which has strained both her family dynamics and her relationship with her sister.
“Two years ago, my sister and I were living together in a high-rise in the city,” she began. “There was a guy she’d been seeing off and on for about two months, and one random day, he asked her for money because he lost his job.”
Her sister lent him the money, but soon after, things took an unexpected turn.
“About two weeks later, I walked into the kitchen — and he was standing there, alone in the apartment. My sister was at work. That’s how I found out he’d moved in. I haven’t liked him for my sister since.”
After getting engaged in December 2024, the bride moved in with her fiancé, leaving her sister and the boyfriend behind. Though the move happened on short notice, she thought that would be the end of it — but the man continued to create problems.

A few months ago, her sister reached out for help, leading to a shocking discovery.
“Long story short, we found her boyfriend cheating with another woman,” she wrote.
Despite the betrayal, her sister didn’t immediately end things. The fallout only deepened when, during a family trip, the uninvited boyfriend showed up anyway to talk to her sister.
“My sister’s boyfriend wasn’t invited but still drove out to where we were vacationing,” she recalled. “Neither my fiancé nor I spoke to him, and he left after a few hours.”
The tension, however, didn’t fade.
When the bride later planned a visit to her sister’s place, her sister declined to host her — claiming her boyfriend felt “awkward” about her fiancé not interacting with him.
“This man has no job, his name isn’t even on the lease, and yet he has so much power over the apartment,” she wrote.
Her fiancé grew increasingly frustrated, sharing her dislike for the man. With their wedding approaching, the bride decided her sister’s boyfriend wouldn’t be invited.
“My sister is my maid of honor. Everyone gets a plus one, but I’m not allowing her boyfriend to attend,” she explained.
Her parents disagreed, arguing that excluding him would hurt her sister.
“They keep saying I should think about my relationship with my sister and how this will affect it,” she noted.
Still, the bride remained firm, emphasizing that her wedding should be about her and her fiancé — not her sister’s relationship drama.
“My parents are supporting my sister and letting her ‘make her own decisions’ instead of telling her the truth — that her boyfriend is a two-timing, no-good piece of blank,” she said.
As the big day approaches, the bride admitted she’s still questioning whether her decision was right.
“AITA? Should I allow him to come?” she asked Reddit.
One commenter warned her that the man might show up regardless.
“He’s gonna show up either way… are you having security escort him out?”
She confirmed she’d already planned ahead.
“We will have security as required by the venue,” she replied. “The escort part might be added now. Thanks for the suggestion.”
