A bridesmaid says she is thinking about skipping her friend’s wedding after the bride told her not to appear in the wedding photos.
She shared her story on the Reddit forum “Am I the A——?”, where people post about personal conflicts and ask others for advice. In her post, she explained that the wedding is coming up “next weekend” and that she was excited to be part of it.
“[I] was very much looking forward to it. We have been friends for over 20 years and never had any problems before,” she wrote.
But according to the woman, the bride sent her a text the night before asking her to stay out of the photos because her tattoos “may ruin them.”
“For context, I have a full sleeve that would be visible in the dress, but all of the bridesmaids and the bride will also have visible tattoos (mine are larger though),” she added.
The bridesmaid also said that another friend had already warned her that the bride was worried she might “overshadow” her. At first, she didn’t believe it.
Even though the request upset her, she said she agreed to stay out of the photos. “It’s her day, she’s paid for it and I don’t want to create any drama,” she explained. “But it’s made me feel quite upset.”
She then asked Reddit, “WIBTAH [would I be the a——] if I made an excuse to not go?”
Commenters were quick to defend her.
“NTA [not the a——],” one person wrote. “What’s the point of you being in the wedding when not in the wedding photos? If you’re a bridesmaid, it should mean the bride loves you for you.”
Another user agreed: “Wedding pictures are to help you remember all of the moments and people that made your day special. If she doesn’t want to remember you at her wedding, then why bother going?”
A third commenter suggested she think carefully before making a final decision: “NTA for considering it, but maybe think about being the bigger person here. Ultimately, this all depends on the friendship you have and where you want this friendship to go.”
