Katie Bates has shared that she and her husband, Travis Clark, have experienced a pregnancy loss.
In a video posted on Instagram on Saturday, Jan. 16, the Bringing Up Bates star, 25, showed a sequence of moments that began with joy and ended in grief. The clip opens with Katie holding a positive pregnancy test, then covering her mouth in shock. She’s later seen buying a baby onesie and setting up a sweet surprise for Travis, 24, placing it on a bed next to a teddy bear and balloons.
But the tone shifts in the second half of the video. Katie appears in a hospital bed, crying as someone holds her hand at her side.
“I just lost my baby,” she says through sobs.
As somber music plays, an audio overlay reflects on the unanswered questions that can follow a loss: “I think I will ask God why for the rest of my life… Even if God himself came in front of me and told me the reason, I don’t think I will accept it.”
The message continues: “Some loves are too hard to bear and with great love comes great pain… If love could’ve saved you, you would’ve lived forever.”
In the caption, Katie wrote: “I will spend the rest of my life missing you 🪽.”
Katie and Travis welcomed their first child, daughter Hailey James, in February 2023, and later welcomed their son, Harvey Gray, on Sept. 29, 2024. Following Katie’s post, family members and friends filled the comments with support and condolences for the couple and their family of four.
“There’s no way to describe the pain of a loss like this,” the Bates family wrote from a shared family account. “Our hearts are all broken, but we know we will meet this precious little one someday in glory!”

Several of Katie’s siblings also shared messages of love and grief. Carlie Stewart wrote, “My heart is broken for you 💔 love you, sis!! 😭,” while Lydia Romeike Bates added, “I’m so so sorry 💔💔💔 praying for you every day🙏♥️.”
Zach Bates said “our hearts are broken” for his sister, and Lawson Bates added, “We’re so so sorry. Love you 💔.”
