Caroline Kennedy is standing firmly behind her son Jack Schlossberg’s provocative social media presence as he launches his bid for Congress.

In a rare interview with The New York Times, the former U.S. ambassador said Schlossberg — who is running for the seat soon to be vacated by Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler — sees social media as a critical vulnerability in the Democratic Party’s communication efforts.

“I’m impressed that he’s thought through the different ways of doing that and is willing to take the consequences when he takes a risk that people find offensive,” she told the outlet.

Schlossberg has openly defended his bold online style. Speaking earlier this year with former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, he said his controversial posts are intentional — a way to get attention, spark conversation, and shake up conventional messaging.

As the only grandson of President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Schlossberg has built a significant online audience, amassing nearly a million followers across Instagram and TikTok.

He has used his platforms to take aim at high-profile figures, sometimes within his own family. Recently, he mocked his cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with a tongue-in-cheek “MAHA Man” Halloween costume questioning his medical expertise. He has also made bizarre jokes online, including a claim about having a child with Usha Vance, wife of Vice President JD Vance.

Another prominent target has been producer Ryan Murphy, whose upcoming drama American Love Story focuses on the late John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Schlossberg criticized the project and once captioned a photo of Murphy on Instagram with the word “pervert.”

Murphy said he was deeply troubled by the remark, telling the Times that he and his family received threats afterward. He added that historically, labeling a gay man a “pervert” has been used as a weapon to incite hate.

Schlossberg maintained that his comment was not about Murphy’s personal life but rather the decision to dramatize intimate aspects of JFK Jr.’s relationships without input from the Kennedy family.

“In my mind, that’s a form of perversion — to be so obsessed with somebody’s sexuality and their love life, to produce a multimillion-dollar series about them,” he said.

As he embarks on his political career, Schlossberg stated that he relies heavily on his own instincts — and his mother’s. Kennedy described their bond as “incredibly close,” noting that he has supported her work with the Kennedy Foundation and accompanied her during international diplomatic assignments.
