Authorities in Ohio have upgraded the charges against Michael David McKee, 39, who is accused of killing his ex-wife Monique Tepe and her husband Spencer Tepe last month.
The couple — described by a friend as “madly in love” — were found dead inside their home in Columbus, Ohio, after police responded to multiple calls requesting a welfare check on Dec. 30.
McKee, an Illinois resident who divorced Monique nearly a decade ago, was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 10, on murder charges, according to booking information from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday, Franklin County authorities increased those charges to aggravated murder, according to court documents.

The killings triggered an intensive investigation that drew attention well beyond Ohio.
Monique, 39, and Spencer, 37, were known by friends and family as a deeply loved couple with an upbeat, magnetic presence. They had recently marked their five-year wedding anniversary on Dec. 13, 2025, just weeks before the deaths.
Two young children, ages 4 and 1, were found physically unharmed inside the residence when police carried out the welfare check. They are now being cared for by extended family members.
McKee is currently awaiting extradition to Franklin County, Ohio, and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday afternoon.
