A Wisconsin man has been sentenced to life in prison more than two years after his elderly parents were found shot to death in their home.
David Metzig, 72, and his wife, Jan Metzig, 71, were discovered dead in their Wolf River, Wisconsin, residence in March 2023, according to a criminal complaint reviewed by authorities. The couple had been wrapped in blankets with bags placed over their heads, the complaint stated.
Their son, Erik Metzig, was arrested shortly after the grim discovery, according to the complaint shared online by FOX 11.
During the sentencing earlier this month, one of Erik’s siblings said police believe their parents were “naked and shot while in their bedroom,” FOX 11 reported.

Investigators also uncovered a journal entry written by Erik in which he described wanting to “eliminate” his parents and make it appear as though they had vanished while out for a walk, according to the complaint.
David and Jan were longtime community members and the third-generation owners and operators of the Union Star Cheese Factory, according to an online obituary shared after their deaths. The couple, who were married for 49 years, are survived by five children.
Erik pleaded no contest to two counts of first-degree intentional homicide in August 2024, as reported by WBAY, FOX 11, and the Post Crescent. The plea followed a motion to withdraw his previous pleas, which was denied earlier this year.
At the sentencing hearing, the judge imposed two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, according to the outlets.
