Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi drew intense criticism on Monday after describing President Donald Trump as a “vile creature” during an interview, leading many conservatives to accuse her of fueling divisive political rhetoric.
Speaking with CNN’s Elex Michaelson, Pelosi stated, “He’s just a vile creature, the worst thing on the face of the earth.” When Michaelson pressed her—“You think he’s the worst thing on the face of the Earth?”—she reaffirmed, “I do, yeah, I do.”
When asked to explain her view, Pelosi said, “Because he’s the president of the United States and he does not honor the Constitution of the United States. In fact, he’s turned the Supreme Court into a rogue court. He’s abolished the House of Representatives, he’s chilled the press, he’s scared people who are in the country legally.”

The comments immediately triggered backlash online, especially from conservative voices.
NRCC National War Room director Ben Petersen reacted on X, writing, “More dehumanizing Democrat language about Republicans.”
Piers Morgan weighed in on X, calling Pelosi’s remarks “absurd” and criticizing her for portraying Trump in harsher terms than global adversaries. He argued that such rhetoric is part of why Democrats are “polling so badly.”
Fox News contributor Steve Cortes posted, “There cannot be a ‘compromise’ with hateful Leftist charlatans. It’s an unbridgeable gap. We just have to win. Let’s do it!”
Conservative strategist Steve Guest echoed similar frustration, writing that Pelosi had “ZERO interest in toning down the rhetoric.”

A Trump-aligned account issued an especially harsh response, accusing Pelosi of being “engulfed in hatred.”
When Fox News Digital reached out for comment, a spokesperson for Pelosi’s office replied by sharing a screenshot of a Newsweek headline: “Trump Launches Attack on Nancy Pelosi: Disgusting Degenerate.”
NBC News reported Monday that Pelosi is expected to “make an announcement” about her political future following Election Day, with unnamed sources predicting she may retire at the end of her current term. However, when asked by Fox News Digital, Pelosi’s spokesperson did not address the retirement speculation.
“Speaker Pelosi is fully focused on her mission to win the Yes on 50 special election in California on Tuesday,” spokesperson Ian Krager said. “She urges all Californians to join in that mission on the path to taking back the House for the Democrats.”
“Yes on 50” refers to a Democratic effort urging California voters to temporarily suspend the state’s independent redistricting commission, enabling lawmakers to redraw congressional maps to benefit Democrats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
