Country singer Spencer Hatcher, 28, is grieving after his mother, Holly Hatcher, 62, was stabbed to death during a home invasion in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Sunday, Aug. 3.
According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, the attacker, 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker, broke into the Hatchers’ home late at night armed with a large knife. Police say Walker stabbed Holly before getting into a fight with her husband, Michael Hatcher, 65. The struggle moved outside, where Michael retrieved a gun from his vehicle and shot Walker once, killing him.

Deputies arrived just before midnight and found Michael injured and Walker dead in the driveway. Inside the home, they discovered Holly, who had died from stab wounds.
Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson called the attack “highly unusual” and “apparently random.” Police are still trying to determine Walker’s motive. Before the incident, Walker had reportedly bought a knife, slept at a Walmart, and broken into a store at a nearby campsite where he had been staying.

In a statement on Instagram, Spencer announced he was canceling upcoming concerts due to “a monumental loss in our family” and thanked fans for their support, asking for privacy.
Michael Hatcher spoke emotionally in a joint video statement with his son and the sheriff. “We’ve cried, we’ve hurt, and we’ve hugged,” he said. “We have found more love than we ever knew existed between us and from others.”
The investigation is ongoing.
