An 83-year-old man from Virginia has been missing for a month, and his son remains hopeful that he will be found safe.
On Tuesday, Sept. 16, around 10 a.m. local time, Theo Ever Loving was last seen near the 1900 block of New Market Road in Henrico County, according to a statement from the Henrico County Police Division on social media.
“He may be traveling on foot and there are concerns for Mr. Loving’s well-being,” officials said at the time.
In the days leading up to his disappearance, Theo’s son, Joshua Loving, told CBS affiliate WTVR that his father had been behaving unusually.
“He came to my room,” Joshua told the outlet. “It was about 10:30 in the morning.”
Theo reportedly told his son that a taxi was waiting outside, but when Joshua checked, no taxi was there.
“He told me the meter was running and he needed money for it, and I told him I didn’t have any money for it,” Joshua recalled to the station.
The family believes Theo may be in the early stages of undiagnosed dementia, according to WTVR.
When he disappeared days later, Theo was last seen wearing a gray Dairy Queen t-shirt, dark jeans, and mismatched shoes, police said. He is described as weighing around 125 pounds, with blonde and white hair and blue eyes.
In an update on Sept. 21, police said the search for Theo continued and that he was believed to still be traveling on foot. Officials have stated that no foul play is suspected.
Joshua told WTVR that search teams have used dogs and drones but have yet to locate his father.
“They claimed they checked all in this area,” Joshua said, adding that his father’s home is in poor condition and may not be safe to live in. Despite the challenges, he remains determined to find him.
“I haven’t given up. I’ve gone to my house every single night; I wait 30 minutes,” Joshua told the outlet. “I’m just kinda hoping he’d walk back in.”
Anyone with information about Theo Loving’s whereabouts is urged to call 911 or the Henrico County Police Division’s non-emergency line at 804-501-5000.
