Fresh reporting about the couple’s 2025 state visit to the United Kingdom says they kept separate sleeping arrangements while staying at Windsor Castle.
According to palace insiders who spoke with the Daily Mail, the president and first lady were assigned separate suites for the trip. While each suite reportedly included both a double bed and a single bed, the report claims Melania Trump still requested private quarters. The same sources also said the couple had personal bedsheets shipped from the United States for the stay.
Separate bedrooms aren’t unheard of among British royals. For example, the late Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were widely reported to have maintained separate sleeping quarters, and Charles III and Camilla are known to keep separate residences. Still, the report says some observers found the Trumps’ request unusual given the short length of their UK stay.
The details also add fuel to ongoing speculation that the couple lead largely separate day-to-day lives. In May, author Michael Wolff claimed on The Daily Beast Podcast that they are effectively separated and “live separate lives.”
That speculation has been amplified by the first lady’s limited public appearances alongside the president, as well as reports that she spends extended time in New York City rather than at the White House or Mar-a-Lago. The White House reportedly pushed back on Wolff’s comments with a sharply worded denial, but the rumors have continued circulating.
