A summary of President Donald Trump’s latest medical examination revealed that the 79-year-old underwent further cardiovascular testing and received updated vaccinations as part of his ongoing health plan.

Trump traveled to Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday, Oct. 10, both to deliver remarks to troops and to complete what the White House described as a “routine yearly checkup.” The visit came despite his earlier statement that he had already finished his annual physical for the year.

White House physician Sean Barbabella released a summary of the exam on Friday evening, noting that the visit was “part of his ongoing health maintenance plan.” According to Barbabella, the appointment included laboratory testing, advanced imaging, and “preventive health assessments” to “ensure optimal cardiovascular health and continued wellness.”

While Barbabella did not specify which imaging or preventive procedures were performed, he stated that Trump’s lab results were “exceptional” and that his cardiac age is “approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age.” According to the Heart Foundation, cardiac age measures cardiovascular health and heart-attack risk in relation to a person’s actual age.

In addition to the testing and imaging, Trump also received updated influenza and COVID-19 vaccines, according to the letter.

“President Donald J. Trump remains in exceptional health, exhibiting strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance,” Barbabella wrote. He added that Trump “continues to maintain a demanding daily schedule without restriction.”

Presidential physicals have long drawn public attention. Since the Nixon administration, White House physicians have released official health reports after each exam to promote transparency and bolster public confidence. The practice has grown increasingly politicized in recent years, particularly for older presidents.

Trump, the oldest person ever elected to the U.S. presidency, had already undergone a physical in April. At that time, Barbabella declared him “fully fit to serve,” describing his overall health as “excellent, with robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function.”

During a period of political turbulence in July — as the administration faced criticism over its handling of the Epstein files — Trump made an unplanned follow-up visit to his physician to investigate swelling in his lower legs. Barbabella’s July 17 note confirmed a diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, calling it a “benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, “Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a form of venous disease that occurs when veins in your legs are damaged. As a result, these veins can’t manage blood flow as well as they should, and it’s harder for blood in your legs to return to your heart. CVI causes blood to pool in your leg veins, leading to high pressure in those veins.” Barbabella emphasized that despite the diagnosis, “The president remains in excellent health.”

Trump has also drawn attention for a recurring bruise on his right hand, which he has often covered with makeup. When photos of the mark first spread online in February, press secretary Karoline Leavitt explained, “President Trump has bruises on his hand because he’s constantly working and shaking hands all day every day.”

Barbabella later addressed the issue more formally, noting that the bruising was “consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which is taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen.”
