Egg prices fell sharply once again in June, marking the third major drop in just four months — and delivering on one of President Donald Trump’s key campaign promises to bring grocery costs down.
According to new data from the Department of Labor, the price index for fresh eggs fell 19.8% last month. That follows a 21.3% drop in March and a 39.3% plunge in April. Prices ticked up slightly in May by 1.4%, but the overall trend since February shows a dramatic 61.2% decrease.
By contrast, egg prices had surged by more than 227% in the final months of Joe Biden’s presidency — a symbol, Trump argued, of failed economic policies and inflation hurting American families.
“Grocery prices have skyrocketed. Cereals up 26 percent, bread 24, butter 37, formula 30, flour 38, and eggs 46,” Trump said during a campaign stop last August. “When I win, I will immediately bring prices down — starting on day one.”
At the time, economists and media outlets mocked the pledge. But as egg prices nosedive, Trump’s supporters are declaring it a clear case of promises made, promises kept.
During the 2024 campaign, Vice Presidential nominee J.D. Vance frequently pointed to soaring egg costs as a symbol of the Biden administration’s inflationary toll on everyday Americans.
“Eggs were $1.50 a dozen before Kamala Harris took office. Now? Around $4,” Vance said during a September stop in Pennsylvania. “Thanks to her tie-breaking vote on the Inflation Explosion Act, families are paying more for the basics.”
Just 11 days into Trump’s presidency this January, Democrats like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) criticized the new administration over lingering high food costs and egg shortages tied to avian flu. In a letter to the White House, they wrote, “During your campaign, you repeatedly promised you would lower food prices ‘immediately’ if elected president.”
Six months later, egg prices are collapsing — and critics like Warren now appear to have egg on their faces.
While prices are still higher than they were a year ago due to historic spikes during the Biden years, Trump allies say the rapid decline is proof his economic agenda is delivering results. Some even joked that Trump and Vance didn’t just solve “eggflation” — they made breakfast great again.
