A couple in England is marking their marriage in a place already woven into their family history.

Frome Town Council said in a Thursday, Jan. 8 press release that Frome Town Hall hosted a wedding on Nov. 15 — nearly 60 years after the same venue welcomed the groom’s grandparents for their ceremony.

“During a recent visit to the Town Hall in preparation for their ceremony, couple Tom and Corina shared that the groom’s grandparents, Terry and Sandra Wheeler, were married at Frome Town Hall on 30 October 1965,” the release said.

The council noted that Terry and Sandra returned to the building in 2017, when the venue reopened following restoration work.

Sandra has since passed away, but Terry attended his grandson’s wedding — “nearly 60 years to the day after his own,” the council added — making the moment especially meaningful for the family.

“It is always a joy to see Frome Town Hall play such a meaningful role in the lives of local families,” Nykki Mehta, the Town Hall’s Events Administrator, said in the release. “Stories like this show how our civic buildings are not just historic landmarks, but welcoming places that bring together individual stories and the wider community’s history.”

Mehta added that the team enjoys helping couples celebrate major milestones, and said the hall’s long-standing tradition continues through ceremonies tailored to each pair.

“Working closely with Somerset Registration Services, we are able to offer ceremonies that can be personalized, helping couples create a day that truly reflects them,” she said.
