WINDHAM, N.H. — Elijah Blue Allman, the 49-year-old son of pop icon Cher and the late rock legend Gregg Allman, remains in custody following a chaotic weekend in New England that saw him arrested twice in less than 72 hours.
The musician was arraigned Monday at Salem District Court on felony burglary and criminal mischief charges after allegedly breaking into a residence while the homeowner hid in a closet. A judge ordered Allman held on preventive detention, citing a breach of bail conditions from an arrest just two days prior.
Forced Entry and a ‘Belligerent’ Weekend
The latest incident began Sunday, March 1, at approximately 9:45 a.m. Windham Police responded to a 911 call from a Ministerial Road residence reporting a break-in. According to a police affidavit, the suspect used tree-trimming loppers to shatter a rear glass door to gain entry.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Allman sitting on the living room couch smoking a cigarette. While nothing was reported stolen, the police report notes that a lit cigarette dropped by Allman caused approximately $1,000 in damage to a rug. Combined with an estimated $1,700 in damage to the door, the property destruction reached the felony threshold.
The Windham burglary occurred while Allman was out on personal recognizance following a Friday night arrest in Concord, N.H. In that instance, authorities were called to St. Paul’s School—an elite private boarding academy—after reports of an “unwanted guest” acting belligerently in the dining hall.
Charges from the weekend spree include:
- Felony Burglary (Windham)
- Felony and Misdemeanor Criminal Mischief (Windham)
- Breach of Bail (Windham)
- Simple Assault (Two counts, Concord)
- Criminal Trespassing (Concord)
- Criminal Threatening (Concord)
- Disorderly Conduct (Concord)

A History of Crisis and Conservatorship
Allman’s recent legal troubles mirror a pattern of erratic behavior documented over the past several years. In June 2025, he was hospitalized in California following an apparent drug overdose where deputies reportedly found narcotics inside his home.
The escalating crises led Cher, 79, to file for a temporary conservatorship over her son’s estate in late 2023. At the time, her legal team argued the move was “urgently needed” to prevent Allman from spending his inheritance from his father’s trust on life-threatening substances.
“I’m not suffering from any problem that millions of people in the United States aren’t,” Cher told PEOPLE during the legal battle. “I’m a mother… you just try to be there for them.”
The petition was ultimately dismissed in September 2024 after the mother and son reached a private agreement to focus on “healing and rebuilding their family bond.”

What’s Next
Allman is currently being held at the Rockingham County Jail. A probable cause hearing for the Windham charges is scheduled for March 11, while he is expected to be arraigned for the Concord incident on April 20.
Representatives for Cher have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the latest arrests.
