Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are parting ways with their countryside retreat in England — and listing it for a hefty $30 million.
The couple told The Wall Street Journal that they are putting their sprawling Cotswolds estate on the market less than a year after relocating from California. Originally purchased in spring 2024 for around $20 million, the property has undergone major renovations to meet the couple’s high standards — but it turns out it wasn’t the right long-term fit.
“We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures,” DeGeneres, 67, explained, referencing de Rossi’s love for animals. The couple has since moved into a more modern property nearby better suited to Portia’s horses.
Known as Kitesbridge Farm, the estate is tucked away at the end of a private drive and sprawls over 43 acres of idyllic Cotswolds countryside. The listing, through U.K. Sotheby’s International Realty, describes the home as a seamless mix of historic charm and sleek modern design.
The main house, dating back to the 1700s, features six bedrooms and wraps around a central courtyard. A two-bedroom guesthouse, a party barn with a built-in pub, a heated pool, and a gym complete the luxurious setup — totaling approximately 16,600 square feet of living space.
“When Ellen and Portia first bought it, the property was tired and pretty basic,” listing agent Andrew Barnes told the Journal. Now, he says, it’s one of the most exclusive properties on the Cotswolds market. Despite an initial renovation timeline of over a year, the couple brought in around 70 workers and completed the job in just 4.5 months — only to live there for just a single month.
Inside, the farmhouse features exposed beam ceilings, original stone walls, and light-filled spaces — a rarity in many period homes. Sleek glass walkways connect the buildings, adding a modern twist.
The move to the U.K. wasn’t just about real estate. DeGeneres confirmed to BBC’s Richard Bacon that she and de Rossi relocated due to the results of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, in which Donald Trump was re-elected. “We got here the day before the election,” she recalled. “We woke up to crying emojis and we said, ‘We’re staying here.’”

Since settling in the U.K., the pair has embraced country life. “It’s absolutely beautiful,” DeGeneres said, marveling at the charm of the Cotswolds’ villages and architecture. “We love it here. Portia flew her horses in, I have chickens, and we even had sheep — for about two weeks.”
Their real estate activity remains as ambitious as ever. In August 2024, they reportedly sold their California estate for $96 million. DeGeneres, a self-proclaimed home-flipping enthusiast, once told The Riv she has bought and sold over 50 properties. “I don’t travel much,” she said. “Flipping houses is my way of changing the scenery — only with a new perspective.”

Kitesbridge Farm is now ready for its next chapter — and possibly a buyer with an appreciation for countryside luxury and star-powered renovation.
