Erika Kirk has shared a deeply personal hope she carried in the days after her husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was killed.

Speaking with Megyn Kelly on SiriusXM’s The Megyn Kelly Channel, the 36-year-old mother of two said she and Charlie had planned to build a family of four children. In the aftermath of his assassination on Sept. 10 at Utah Valley University, she found herself wishing she was already expecting their third.

“We wanted to have four,” she told Kelly. “And I was praying to God that I was pregnant when he got murdered. I was like, ‘Oh goodness, that would be the ultimate blessing out of this catastrophe.’”

Erika and Charlie, who was 31 at the time of his death, shared a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son.

During the conversation, Erika said her experience has made her more vocal about encouraging young couples—especially women who want children—to prioritize starting a family sooner rather than later.

“Now when I see young couples, I tell them, ‘Please, like don’t put it off,’ especially if you’re a young woman, don’t put it off,” she said. “You can always have a career. You can always go back to work. You can never just go back to having children, and they grow so fast and so quickly.”

She added that she and Charlie had been excited about growing their family. “I was praying, both of us were, we were really excited to just expand our family,” she said.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent right-wing personality, was shot during a campus event in Orem, Utah, while hosting his “Prove Me Wrong” table as part of his American Comeback Tour. Video from the scene appeared to show him being struck in the side of the head or neck as he addressed attendees under a white pop-up tent.

Authorities did not immediately detain a suspect, but on Sept. 11, police arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson after a large-scale manhunt. Robinson faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder. Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray has said prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty.

In September, Erika was also granted a protective order barring Robinson from contacting her.
