Authorities in Ohio have charged a former American Idol contestant in connection with the death of his wife.

Police responded to a residence in Tipp City, Ohio, early Monday morning, Feb. 16, where 37-year-old Ashley Flynn was found dead, according to a statement from the Tipp City Police Department. Officers had arrived at the home after receiving a 911 call from her husband, Caleb Flynn, who reported a suspected burglary.

On Thursday, authorities took 39-year-old Caleb Flynn into custody. Online court records show he has been charged with murder, two counts of felonious assault, and two counts of tampering with evidence. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is being held on a $2 million bond.

Investigators have released limited details about the case, citing the need to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

In a statement, Flynn’s attorney, L. Patrick Mulligan, said his client intends to fight the charges.

“Mr. Flynn looks forward to defending this case,” Mulligan said. “We are disappointed and concerned about what appears to be a rushed judgment. In cases like these, when investigators focus on a surviving spouse without fully developing other leads, the risk of a wrongful conviction increases.”

Ashley Flynn, a mother of two daughters, was a volleyball coach at Tippecanoe Middle School and a substitute teacher at Lifewise Academy. Tipp City Schools paid tribute to her in a social media post, describing her as someone remembered for her warmth, kindness, and positive influence.

“She was known for her beautiful smile, warmth, kindness, and the positive impact she had on so many — both in and out of the classroom and on the court,” the post read.

Family members also honored her in a GoFundMe campaign established to support her daughters, remembering her as a devoted mother whose laughter and encouragement left a lasting impression.

An online obituary similarly celebrated her life, calling Ashley “a shining light of joy” whose kindness touched countless people.

Caleb Flynn previously appeared on American Idol in 2013 during the show’s 12th season. In an interview aired at the time, he spoke affectionately about his wife, saying, “I love my wife more than anything.”
