Zachery Ty Bryan was arraigned on Wednesday, Dec. 3, on allegations that he violated the terms of his probation.

The Home Improvement alum, 44, entered a denial to the probation violation charges tied to a prior domestic violence conviction, according to court records. A hearing on the alleged violation has been set for later this month.

When he was first taken into custody, Bryan was denied bail and given an “end of sentence date” of Wednesday, Dec. 3. Updated records show he was later transferred to Lane County Community Corrections on a “detainer,” where he remains in custody.

Lane County’s official website describes the program as one that “houses offenders in a structured setting, allowing them to leave the premises for work or other approved activities such as drug treatment.”

His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Bryan was arrested on Saturday, Nov. 29, after an incident involving his fiancée, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, who was also taken into custody that same day.

Court records show that on Monday, Dec. 1, Cartwright was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to one count of driving under the influence, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and three counts of reckless driving.

Shortly before Cartwright’s arraignment, the arresting agency detailed the incident in a Facebook post:

“On November 29th at about 12:30 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of reckless endangering in the area of Big Fall Creek Road milepost 5, a popular camping area northeast of Lowell.”

“Deputies learned Zachery Ty Bryan, 44, of Eugene, was in a pickup truck with Johnnie Faye Cartwright, 32, of Eugene, and their three small children. They were driving together in the area. At some point Bryan got out of the pickup truck and began walking on Big Fall Creek Road. Cartwright then attempted to run over Bryan, crashing the truck with the children inside into the ditch. Bryan was able to move out of the way and avoid injury. No one inside the pickup was injured.”

“Deputies interviewed Bryan and Cartwright. Deputies observed signs both were impaired. Deputies also interviewed witnesses contacted on scene. Per a court order from a prior case, Bryan was not supposed to be in contact with Cartwright.”

The statement continued:

“After additional investigation, Cartwright was arrested for Attempted Assault in the 1st Degree, three counts of Recklessly Endangering, and DUII. Bryan was arrested for a probation violation on an original charge of Assault in the 4th Degree. The involved children were placed with a family member.”

The couple, who have been engaged since November 2021, share three children: daughter Kennedy, 3, and twins Parker and Sequoia, 2. They have been embroiled in a series of legal troubles over the past several years. This marks Bryan’s sixth arrest in five years, with the previous one occurring in January.

In that earlier case, Bryan faced allegations of second-degree domestic violence from Myrtle Beach police in South Carolina. According to a police report, an officer wrote that a woman “stated that she was assaulted” by Bryan and that the two “live together and have children in common.” She alleged that Bryan “choked her and punched her in the face multiple times,” and that there were “others” present who were “inside the home during the incident.”

Bryan’s history of legal issues includes a 2021 incident in which he pled guilty to two misdemeanor domestic violence charges after being accused of strangling a woman. In 2023, he pled guilty to fourth-degree felony assault. In 2024, he was arrested twice on DUI charges.
