Neighbors of Declan Perry told police they saw a man carrying what looked like a “large, heavy blanket” out of Perry’s apartment and into the back of a car the same day his body was discovered outside a Massachusetts hospital.
Perry, 27, was found unresponsive in a black Honda Civic parked outside the emergency room at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass. around 2:15 p.m. Saturday. He was later pronounced dead.
Investigators are now working to understand what happened to Perry and how his body was transported from his apartment in Portland, Maine, to the hospital more than two hours away.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Monday that investigators are focusing on the man neighbors said they saw moving the body. Officials believe Perry and the unidentified individual knew each other, though they have not disclosed the nature of their relationship.
“The investigation is active and ongoing,” the DA’s office said in a statement on social media. “The victim and the identified person of interest were known to one another.”
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is still working to determine Perry’s cause and manner of death. Meanwhile, investigators have executed a search warrant at Perry’s residence in Maine and collected evidence linked to the case.
Authorities say the investigation is continuing.
