Image Shows Last Moment Missing College Student Owen Kenney, 19, Was Seen Before He Vanished on Halloween

Authorities in South Carolina have released a photograph showing the last known sighting of 19-year-old Owen Tillman Kenney, who vanished in the early hours of Halloween.

According to an updated statement from the Charleston Police Department (CPD), Kenney was last seen wearing a black jacket, black hat, light-colored jeans, and black-and-white Nike sneakers. A black face covering obscured part of his face in the image.

While initial reports claimed Kenney had been dressed in a “Boston Celtics jersey” as part of his Halloween costume, investigators clarified that surveillance footage shows him instead in darker clothing without visible logos.

Detectives determined that Kenney was seen “walking alone” onto the pedestrian walkway of the Ravenel Bridge shortly after 3 a.m. on October 31, 2025. His cellphone’s final recorded location also placed him on the bridge around the same time, police said.

The department has since deployed an extensive search operation that includes an underwater recovery team, harbor patrol, K9 units, and drone support. Officers remain in contact with Kenney’s family, who are closely involved in the ongoing investigation.

“We would like to thank the countless people who have been looking for Owen and sharing his photos on social media,” CPD said in a statement. “While we recognize the tremendous public interest and concern surrounding this case, it is important to remember that at the heart of this investigation is a family searching for their loved one.”

Before this update, police reported that Kenney was last seen by friends near King Street and Burns Lane around 2 a.m. that same morning. His family shared on Facebook that “he was minutes from his house but never made it home.”

A student at the College of Charleston, Kenney was reported missing on Saturday, Nov. 1, according to a school bulletin. His roommates told NBC affiliate WCBD they had tried to track his phone, but said the device’s battery had died by the time he disappeared.

Another student, who did not personally know Kenney, told the outlet, “It’s honestly really eerie on campus right now. We’re definitely feeling the distance here.” They added, “I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s definitely scary. I just really pray that this doesn’t happen again.”
