A man died after experiencing a medical emergency while riding an attraction at Disneyland.

Around 10 a.m. local time on Friday, Aug. 29, “a foreign guest suddenly lost consciousness while riding the Frozen Ever After attraction” at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, a spokesperson for the park told PEOPLE.

“After the boat was preparing to dock, cast members immediately provided first aid and performed CPR,” the representative added.

Although he was “promptly transported by ambulance to North Lantau Hospital,” the spokesperson said the tourist died “at around 11:30 a.m. at the hospital.”

According to the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort spokesperson, the guest’s “accompanying family members later reported that the guest had a pre-existing medical condition.”

“The resort deeply regrets the passing of the guest and will do its utmost to provide necessary assistance to his family. Our initial investigation has shown the incident is not related to ride safety,” the representative said.

The Strait Times reported that the man’s wife told police her husband had pre-existing conditions including heart disease and high blood pressure, which required regular treatment and check-ups. The man, whose identity has not been released, was 53 years old.

The Frozen Ever After ride at Hong Kong Disneyland opened in November 2023. The slow-moving boat ride is part of Disney’s first themed land dedicated to the hit Frozen film franchise.

In an update shared on Disneyland Hong Kong’s website, the company announced that Frozen Ever After will be temporarily closed “due to operational adjustments” from Aug. 31 to Sept. 19.

The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Saturday, Aug. 30.
