Jen Shah is expected to leave federal custody earlier than previously projected.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons has approved a Dec. 10 release date for the former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member, marking another reduction in the six-and-a-half-year sentence she began serving in February 2023 for her role in a nationwide telemarketing fraud scheme.

“Everyone’s very grateful for the BOP’s decision, especially because it means Jen will be able to reunite with her family for the holidays,” Shah’s manager, Chris Giovanni, said. “It’s a gift she doesn’t take for granted.”

He added that Shah has been in a “positive, hopeful place mentally” and has spent her time reflecting and working on personal growth. According to Giovanni, she’s focused on her family and building a healthier, more grounded life after acknowledging the seriousness of her actions and the harm they caused.

A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to comment on the specifics of Shah’s release plans, citing privacy and security rules.

Shah, 52, has been housed at the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, a minimum-security facility that has also held other high-profile inmates. She reported there on Feb. 17, 2023, after pleading guilty in July 2022 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud tied to a scheme that targeted thousands of victims, including elderly people.

At sentencing, Shah apologized in court, saying she was sorry for hurting innocent people and intended to do what she could to make restitution.

Her release date has shifted multiple times since she entered custody. The Bureau of Prisons has credited those reductions to good behavior, participation in prison programs, and restitution payments she has begun making toward the $6.5 million she has been ordered to repay.

Where Shah will go after Dec. 10 has not been finalized. Under BOP policy, she may be released directly home or transferred to a halfway house to complete the remainder of her sentence under supervised conditions. A final placement decision is expected before her departure.

Throughout her incarceration, Shah’s husband, University of Utah football coach Sharrieff “Coach” Shah, has continued to support her. In August, she marked their 31st wedding anniversary with a social media post featuring a photo from one of his visits, praising him for standing by her and celebrating their two sons, Sharrieff Jr., 31, and Omar, 22.

Earlier this year, Shah also shared reflections on her first year in prison, describing how difficult it was to be away from her family but saying she had found humility and perspective while incarcerated. She wrote that faith, prayer, and therapy helped her stay grounded and push through despair, and that she is working toward becoming someone worthy of a second chance.
