Kamala Harris has not ruled out another presidential campaign.
In her first U.K. interview, the 61-year-old former vice president told the BBC she remains confident that a woman will eventually occupy the Oval Office.
Speaking with Laura Kuenssberg on Sunday, Harris said she believes her grandnieces will “in their lifetime, for sure,” see a female president. When asked whether that woman could be her, she replied, “Possibly.”
“I am not done,” Harris said, explaining that she hasn’t made any decisions about another presidential bid after her 2024 loss to Donald Trump. “I have lived my entire career as a life of service, and it’s in my bones.”
Harris dismissed polling data that suggests her odds of winning the presidency are low. “If I listened to polls, I would have not run for my first office, or my second office — and I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here,” she said.
The former vice president also criticized Trump, 79, asserting that predictions about him leading an authoritarian government have already come true.
“He said he would weaponize the Department of Justice, and he has done exactly that,” Harris said, citing the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel by ABC following the late-night host’s joke about MAGA supporters’ reactions to Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

“You look at what has happened in terms of how he has weaponized, for example, federal agencies going around after political satirists,” she continued, referring to Trump and FCC commissioner Brendan Carr’s threats to block broadcasts after Kimmel’s comments.
“His skin is so thin he couldn’t endure criticism from a joke, and attempted to shut down an entire media organization in the process,” she said.
In response, a White House spokesperson called her remarks “absurd lies.”
“When Kamala Harris lost the election in a landslide, she should’ve taken the hint — the American people don’t care about her absurd lies,” spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told the outlet. “Or maybe she did take the hint and that’s why she’s continuing to air her grievances to foreign publications.”
Elsewhere in her conversation with Kuenssberg, Harris criticized public figures she believes have bowed too easily to Trump’s influence.
“There are many… that have capitulated since day one, who are bending the knee at the foot of a tyrant, I believe for many reasons, including they want to be next to power, because they want to perhaps have a merger approved or avoid an investigation,” she said.
Harris secured the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in its final weeks. She selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.
Their ticket captured 48.3% of the popular vote and 226 electoral votes, falling short to Trump and his running mate, JD Vance.
Harris had previously announced in July that she would not seek higher office in 2026, despite widespread speculation about a California gubernatorial run.

“In recent months, I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their governor,” she said in a statement at the time. “I love this state, its people and its promise. It is my home. But after deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election.”
The nation’s first female vice president reflected on what she described as a political landscape that has “too often failed the American people, culminating in this moment of crisis,” and urged Democrats to embrace “fresh thinking” instead of being “bound by the same playbook.”
“For now, my leadership — and public service — will not be in elected office,” Harris said. “I look forward to getting back out and listening to the American people, helping elect Democrats across the nation who will fight fearlessly, and sharing more details in the months ahead about my own plans.”
