King Charles has officially revoked the last of his brother’s royal honors, fully removing Prince Andrew from two of Britain’s most prestigious chivalric orders.

On Dec. 1, The Gazette — the U.K.’s official public record — published an entry stating that the King had ordered Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s name erased from the registers of both the Order of the Garter and the Royal Victorian Order. The notice was issued by the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood at St. James’s Palace in London and marked as “to be dated 30 October 2025” — the same day Buckingham Palace announced that the King had begun the process of stripping Andrew of his style, titles and honors.

The entry stated:

“THE KING has directed that the appointment of Andrew Albert Christian Edward MOUNTBATTEN-WINDSOR to be a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, dated 23 April 2006, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order.”

It continued:

“THE KING has directed that the appointment of Andrew Albert Christian Edward MOUNTBATTEN-WINDSOR to be a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, dated 19 February 2011, shall be cancelled and annulled and that his name shall be erased from the Register of the said Order.”

In line with earlier palace guidance, The Gazette referred to him by his full name, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, reflecting the loss of his princely title.

These honors were originally bestowed by his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth. The Order of the Garter is the oldest and most senior order of chivalry in Britain, while the Royal Victorian Order recognizes outstanding personal service to the monarch and the royal family in the U.K. and across the Commonwealth. Membership in both orders is highly selective and symbolically significant.

The latest step follows Andrew’s own announcement on Oct. 17, when the 65-year-old declared that he would give up his royal titles and honors amid renewed attention on the extent of his association with Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted s*x offender who died in 2019 while awaiting trial.

Andrew withdrew from public royal duties in November 2019 after a widely criticized BBC interview in which he discussed his relationship with Epstein. In January 2022, Queen Elizabeth removed his military titles and royal patronages after a judge refused to dismiss a sexual assault lawsuit brought against him by Virginia Giuffre.

Andrew later reached an out-of-court settlement with Giuffre for an undisclosed sum and has consistently denied any wrongdoing. Giuffre died by suicide at age 41 in April of this year.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Oct. 30 that King Charles had initiated the formal process to remove Andrew’s remaining titles. On Nov. 3, the change was officially recorded in Letters Patent issued by the Crown Office and published in The Gazette, and the Dec. 1 entry completed the removal of his honors from the relevant royal registers.
