A Florida man was arrested after police say he threw three young children over a fence to avoid being caught.
Larry Rada Jr. was taken into custody following a crash in Fort Myers, Fla., on Saturday, Sept. 13, with three children in his vehicle, according to a booking report from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office reviewed by PEOPLE.
Rada is the father of one child and the uncle of the other two, the report says.
Authorities say Rada was speeding on San Carlos Blvd when police tried to stop him. He allegedly made a “complete 360” spin and drove away, according to the report.
Although the deputy did not chase him, police later got reports that Rada had crashed his car into a ditch.
Rada is accused of then throwing the three children, whose ages were not shared, over a 6-foot fence into a stranger’s home.
A witness gave police Ring camera footage that reportedly shows Rada “grab each one of the children and hurl them over his privacy fence…in a manner with blatant disregard for the children’s safety,” according to the report.
Neighbors and police said the children were in distress, crying and complaining of head and stomach pain. One child was vomiting.
The children were taken to a medical facility and later released.
Rada reportedly told authorities he had spent the day at the beach with the kids but became “scared” when a sheriff’s deputy tried to pull him over, then sped away. He also allegedly said he “knew what he did was wrong but was scared to return to prison,” according to the report.
He was arrested on three counts of child neglect and three counts of child abuse, according to the sheriff’s office.
It is not yet clear if he has entered pleas or hired an attorney.
