JFK Jr. Believed He Uncovered His Father’s Killers — and Planned to Reveal the Truth Before His Death

Throughout his life, John F. Kennedy Jr. was driven by one mission: to uncover the truth behind his father’s assassination. In the months leading up to his own tragic plane crash in July 1999, the son of the slain president believed he had finally assembled undeniable evidence pointing to a conspiracy — one involving organized crime and his father’s successor, Lyndon B. Johnson.

According to a former prosecutor and a source close to the Kennedy family, JFK Jr. had planned to go public with explosive findings, including details of a purported deal between the Mafia and LBJ. But before he could release his evidence, fate intervened. His private plane crashed off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, silencing him forever.

“In the end, both John and his father were denied justice,” the source said. “But I take comfort in knowing John died having uncovered what he believed to be the truth. He dedicated years to solving the mystery of Dallas.”

A Mission Rooted in Childhood Trauma

JFK Jr.’s pursuit of the truth reportedly began in childhood after he witnessed his mother, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, struggle with the trauma of the assassination.

“She had recurring nightmares,” the source revealed. “Jackie would relive the motorcade, the shots, and the horrific aftermath. John would comfort her without knowing the full story, but later, his sister Caroline explained the source of their mother’s pain.”

As he grew older, John became increasingly obsessed with his father’s legacy. He filled his bedroom with JFK memorabilia and began asking tough questions about what really happened on November 22, 1963. When family members remained tight-lipped, John vowed to investigate on his own.

A Private Investigation — and Shocking Discoveries

In college, JFK Jr. transformed that passion into determination. The more he learned, the more convinced he became that the truth had been covered up. He began using the Kennedy name, resources, and connections to dig deeper.

According to one relative, it was during a private conversation over drinks that his uncle, Senator Ted Kennedy, made a startling admission: the Mafia and Lyndon Johnson were behind the assassination.

“Ted told him the Mob helped rig the 1960 election in JFK’s favor, expecting leniency from the administration,” the source explained. “But when JFK and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy cracked down on organized crime — and planned to drop LBJ from the ticket in 1964 — they were marked for elimination.”

Ted also reportedly warned that Bobby Kennedy’s 1968 assassination was part of the same retribution — and that any Kennedy who pursued the truth would meet the same fate.

Still, John was undeterred. He turned to his uncle Sargent Shriver, and later to Burke Marshall, a family confidant and former Justice Department official, who had managed private inquiries into both JFK and RFK’s deaths. Marshall provided John with classified documents — including unreleased files from the Warren Commission — which John pored over for months.

“He was horrified,” the source said. “The FBI had evidence of a conspiracy. They had suspects. But the investigation had been shut down at the highest level.”

Renewed Efforts After Jackie’s Death

While his mother was alive, John promised not to cause her more grief and agreed to shelve his probe. But after Jackie passed in 1994, he resumed his efforts with renewed intensity.

He assembled a team of private investigators, who pointed to Chicago mob boss Sam Giancana as a key figure in the conspiracy. They concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald had been set up as a fall guy, while Mafia hitmen carried out the actual shooting. Jack Ruby — the man who killed Oswald — was allegedly under Mafia control.

“John’s investigators found that several key mobsters involved were still alive,” the insider said. “With help from President Bill Clinton, a Kennedy family ally, John hoped to push the case forward through official channels and publish his findings in George magazine.”

Final Warnings — and a Mysterious End

In spring 1999, Ted Kennedy once again urged John to stop.

“Ted warned him that exposing LBJ as a conspirator could shake the nation’s faith in government,” the insider shared. “He also told John his actions could put his wife and future family in danger.”

John agreed to delay his next steps, planning to weigh his options carefully. “He’d waited his whole life — what was a few more months?” the source added.

But he never got that chance. On July 16, 1999, JFK Jr., his wife Carolyn Bessette, and her sister Lauren died when their plane crashed en route to a family wedding.

According to the insider, Ted Kennedy made sure John’s investigation was buried with him. “He ordered that all of John’s files and evidence be destroyed — permanently sealing what may have been the truth behind America’s most haunting political mystery.”
