Authorities say skeletal remains found in Utah have been identified as a man who went missing in 2022.
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that they were notified about the remains being found in the county on Thursday, Sept. 11. Officials did not give more details about the discovery.
After the medical examiner confirmed the remains were human, dental records helped identify the man as Jamey Eugene Holyoak.
Holyoak was reported missing on April 28, 2022. The 47-year-old was last seen in La Sal almost two weeks earlier “leaving a local property with his pedal bike,” according to the Utah Department of Public Safety’s cold case database.

Holyoak’s family was notified about the discovery and identification of his remains, according to police.
“The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our condolences to the Holyoak Family at this time,” they said.
Holyoak lived with a girlfriend and others at a vacant property in La Sal, according to The Times-Independent.
Family members said Holyoak struggled with addiction. His sister, Kathy Holyoak Randall, told the Times-Independent in 2023 that his life got worse “after his wife left him.”
“We did everything we could do,” Randall said. “He went through three different rehabs.”
In 2023, his siblings said they hired a private investigator.
“We have no clues,” investigator Jason Jensen told the paper. “There’s been a lot of online innuendo and rumors, but all we know for sure is that he was last seen (on April 15, 2022) at Fort Douglas.”
