A man says his wife is angry with him after he asked her not to wear visible pimple patches to his sister’s wedding — and he’s wondering if he went too far.

In a post on Reddit’s “Am I the A——?” forum, the 41-year-old explained that his wife, 43, has dealt with cystic acne since her teens. He shared that she regularly wears star-shaped pimple patches without makeup while teaching at an all-girls private high school, saying it helps students feel more comfortable. He also noted that he personally thinks the patches look cute on her in that setting.

But as the family prepares to attend his sister’s upcoming wedding, he says his wife wants to wear the same visible, star-shaped patches — still without makeup — to the formal event.

The complication, he added, is their 13-year-old daughter, who is also struggling with cystic acne. According to him, their daughter worries the patches will draw attention to her mother’s acne, which could then lead to more attention on her own skin.

The man said he asked his wife not to wear the patches to the wedding, though he intentionally didn’t mention their daughter’s feelings because their daughter asked him not to. Instead, he told his wife he felt the patches might not be appropriate for a formal occasion.

That request didn’t land well. The man said his wife is now “upset” and questioning his earlier comments about the patches being cute.

At the end of his post, he asked readers: “Am I the a——?”

In the comments, many Reddit users sided with the husband, arguing that there’s a difference between everyday choices and what feels suitable for a wedding setting — especially one with formal photos and a traditional atmosphere.

One commenter compared it to wearing something fun or intimate in private but not bringing it to a formal public event, saying there’s “a time and place for everything.” Others wrote that, regardless of her intentions, visible pimple patches at a wedding could come across as attention-seeking or too casual for the occasion, especially given the formality expected and the importance of wedding photos.
