Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene responded sharply to President Donald Trump after comments he made about her during a rally in North Carolina, arguing that her record remains firmly “America First.”

The Georgia Republican said she has voted with Trump 98 percent of the time, adding that “maybe his memory is not so good.”

Why It Matters

Greene was long regarded as one of Trump’s most reliable allies. But their relationship has deteriorated following public disagreements on multiple issues, including debates surrounding the Epstein files and foreign policy. In recent remarks, Trump has publicly criticized Greene and withdrawn his support and endorsement.

The clash underscores ongoing tensions within the Republican coalition, with some fractures emerging between hardline MAGA figures and broader party leadership. Greene—who has drawn national attention since entering Congress in 2021—has been among Trump’s most vocal defenders in the past, making their split especially notable.

What To Know

Trump delivered a roughly 90-minute speech at a rally in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, touching on a range of topics and at one point turning to Greene.

“What the hell happened to her?” Trump said during the speech, adding that he believed she “must have been a stone-cold liberal,” and suggesting he had not returned her calls.

Greene responded soon after in a post on X, disputing Trump’s characterization and questioning his understanding of her record.

“I think the President is having some confusion because my voting record and donation history is actually more conservative and America First than he is,” she wrote, adding, “I didn’t call him much but I should have called him more.”

Greene also said she voted with Trump 98 percent of the time, but claimed she faced backlash for refusing to remove her name from what she described as an “Epstein discharge petition.”

The handling of the Epstein-related records has become a flashpoint among some conservatives, contributing to criticism from the right. While the Justice Department has begun releasing documents, the disclosures have drawn complaints over extensive redactions.

Trump did not mention the Epstein files during the North Carolina event.

What People Are Saying

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, in a post on X: “I refuse to be divided any longer. I refuse to hate my fellow Americans. I love my fellow Americans and I love my country. The old guard is dying, the bully is becoming a lame duck, and real America is rising.”

President Donald Trump, speaking in North Carolina: “You can’t call a president every single day, and then when the president doesn’t call you back, she goes around saying ‘He doesn’t call me back.’ I said, ‘Marjorie, I just can’t call you back, I’m sorry’… But what the hell happened to Marjorie Traitor Greene? It’s unbelievable.”

What’s Next

Greene’s final day in Congress is scheduled for January 5, 2026. A special election is expected to be held to fill her seat in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District.
