Musk likens America Party to ‘Epaminondas’ in Sparta scenario; reveals when his party will contest

Just hours after launching his new political outfit — the America Party — billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk confirmed on Saturday that his party will participate in the 2026 U.S. midterm elections. The announcement comes amid Musk’s deepening feud with President Donald Trump over the controversial One Big Beautiful Bill, a sweeping tax and spending package recently signed into law.

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), the Tesla and SpaceX CEO laid out his political vision and likened his strategy to a famous moment in ancient military history — the Battle of Leuctra in 371 BCE, where Epaminondas of Thebes defeated the mighty Spartan army using a bold, concentrated attack strategy.

“The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra: extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield,” Musk wrote.

Musk framed the long-dominant two-party system — Democrats and Republicans — as a flawed but entrenched “Spartan” regime. In contrast, he portrayed the newly formed America Party as Thebes: a lean, focused challenger capable of disrupting the status quo with precision targeting.

When asked by a user when the America Party would contest elections, Musk responded: “Next year.” He clarified that the focus will not be a broad national push, but a strategic one:

“We’ll start small, contesting key seats in 2026 to flip the balance, not 2028.”

He added that while the political landscape may evolve, “Thebes did actually dominate Greece for a decade following Leuctra,” hinting at long-term ambitions.

Targeting Competitive Seats in 2026

According to Musk, the America Party aims to contest 6–8 House seats and 4 Senate races in the 2026 midterms, with a focus on swing districts where influence over legislation can be most effectively applied. The objective is to disrupt the current “uniparty” alignment that he believes enables unchecked federal spending and entrenched interests.

The political maneuver comes just a day after Musk officially launched the America Party, following overwhelming support from his followers in an Independence Day poll.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk declared in the announcement. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

Feud with Trump Escalates

Musk’s political rebellion follows escalating tensions with President Trump. Once a key ally who led the Trump-era Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and poured millions into Trump’s re-election campaign, Musk now finds himself on the other side of the aisle.

After Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill — a measure Musk denounced as reckless and corrupt — the tech mogul publicly pledged to fund efforts to unseat lawmakers who supported it.

In response, Trump reportedly threatened to cut off federal subsidies to Musk’s companies and even floated the idea of reviewing Musk’s citizenship status — a threat seen by some as politically motivated retaliation.

With the launch of the America Party and a targeted midterm strategy, Musk appears ready to translate his digital influence and financial clout into real-world political disruption.
