Meghan Markle’s As ever lifestyle brand recently drew online scrutiny after a temporary website glitch appeared to reveal inventory figures for individual products — sparking claims that large stock numbers meant weak sales.

On Jan. 6, the Daily Mail reported that Reddit users had identified a workaround that seemingly showed how many units were available for purchase across items from the Duchess of Sussex’s lifestyle line, which launched in 2025. Some commentators quickly interpreted the figures as evidence that products were not selling well.

According to posts circulating on Reddit, users said they could uncover total stock counts by attempting to add unusually large quantities of items to their shopping carts. The As ever website would then display a maximum number available for purchase.

However, sources familiar with the business say that interpretation overlooks key context — and that the data instead reflects a brand experiencing strong demand while gearing up for broader international expansion.

Although the technical issue has since been fixed, the glitch briefly displayed inventory totals showing approximately 220,000 jars of jam, 30,000 jars of honey, 90,000 candles, 80,000 tins of flower sprinkles, and around 70,000 bottles of wine across several varietals, including brut, sauvignon blanc, and rosé. As ever sells shelf-stable food products such as jam, tea, and honey, along with candles and wines.

A source with direct knowledge of the business says the numbers point to momentum rather than stagnation.

“While it’s normal for a business not to disclose sales data, the brief glimpse created by this glitch actually suggests a company that isn’t just succeeding — it’s moving products incredibly fast,” the source explains. “What you’re seeing is inventory that has already been scaled to support growth.”

In a recent interview, Meghan herself indirectly referenced the scale of demand, mentioning a purchase order of one million units for a single product.

“It doesn’t take much analysis to see that what remains reflects strong performance,” the source continues. “That large order was clearly tied to the international expansion plans the Duchess has discussed for the brand.”

Given current sales patterns, the source adds, inventory may need to increase further as As ever rolls out in additional global markets.

The one-million-unit purchase order referenced remarks Meghan, 44, made during a Bloomberg Originals interview on The Circuit with Emily Chang last year, where she discussed the challenges of launching As ever. While she declined to share specific sales figures, she confirmed that much of the brand’s inventory sold out rapidly — including its debut rosé, which disappeared in under an hour.

“When you sell out that quickly, it’s actually a double-edged sword,” Meghan said. “It’s incredible for any startup, but at the same time you lose the chance to gather meaningful data on which SKUs are most in demand, because everything is gone immediately.”

She explained that after the initial release, the company dramatically increased inventory for a second seasonal drop.

“We thought for sure that would last at least a couple of weeks,” she said. “It sold out in a couple of hours. Suddenly the conversation shifted from talking about a few thousand jars and lids to realizing we needed to place a purchase order of a million units. That’s an enormous leap in just a few months of starting a business.”

When asked whether global expansion was part of the plan, Meghan replied, “Yes, absolutely.”

Reflecting on the brand’s launch in March 2025, the Duchess of Sussex described how she views her role moving forward.

“I see myself as an entrepreneur and a female founder,” she said. “And if the brand becomes influential, that’s a wonderful outcome.”
