Michael McKee, a vascular surgeon accused of killing his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, and her husband, dentist Spencer Tepe, is now facing additional charges as Ohio authorities prepare to bring him back from Illinois.

A grand jury in Franklin County indicted McKee on four counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated robbery on Friday, Jan. 16, according to court records.

Prosecutors also allege McKee used a firearm equipped with a muffler, according to the grand jury indictment. Police said earlier this week that a weapon found during a search of McKee’s property matched the one investigators believe was used in the killings.

McKee was booked into the Winnebago County Jail on Jan. 10 — nearly two weeks after Monique and Spencer were shot to death inside their Columbus home on Dec. 30. The deaths came just days after the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary, while their two children, ages 4 and 1, slept in their bedrooms.

An arrest warrant filed in Franklin County Court states that detectives “able to identify a suspect through neighborhood video surveillance” and then tracked that person to a vehicle that “which arrived just prior to the homicides and left shortly after the homicides.”

Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said investigators also have evidence indicating McKee had possession of that vehicle both before and after the killings. Authorities later tracked the vehicle to Illinois, where McKee was taken into custody roughly 450 miles from the crime scene.

McKee has not publicly commented on the allegations. Police said he invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination when interviewed by detectives. He also did not speak during his first court appearance on Monday, Jan. 12.

At that hearing, Winnebago County Assistant Public Defender Carrie Poirier told the judge her client agreed to waive an extradition hearing and planned to plead not guilty to the charges he had been facing in Ohio before this latest indictment.

McKee and Monique married in 2015 after meeting while attending Ohio State University. They divorced in 2017, less than two years after their wedding.
