A 55-year-old Michigan woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly striking and killing a three-year-old boy in a hit-and-run crash while driving without a valid license.
Tammy Sandoval was arrested after she allegedly struck Tia Robinson and her twin children — Khalil and Khloe — while they were crossing a street in Livonia, Michigan, following a Sunday night festival and fireworks display. Khalil was killed in the crash; his sister and mother survived.
According to authorities, Sandoval fled the scene after the collision. Police later discovered that her driver’s license had been suspended last year after she refused a roadside sobriety test during a previous traffic stop.
She was taken into custody the following day and is now being held on a $600,000 bond. She has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Devastated Family Mourns “Loving” Boy
Speaking to Fox 2, Regina Robinson, the children’s grandmother, said the twins had begged to attend the carnival and fireworks that night.
“Why would anyone hit a family, not stop, not try to help? Just drive off like nothing happened?” she asked.
Michael Robinson, the children’s grandfather, described Khalil as a sweet, caring boy who always looked out for his sister.
“If I gave him candy, he made sure to take one to his sister. He was very loving, even though they had their little squabbles.”
Charges and Court Proceedings
Sandoval faces the following charges:
- One count of operating while license suspended, revoked, or denied — causing death
- Two counts of the same offense — causing serious injury
- Two counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident — causing serious impairment
- One count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident while at fault — causing death
Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 10.
Police say the investigation is ongoing as the family and community continue to mourn a life lost far too soon.
