Ashley Biden is sharing about some major changes in her life.
The daughter of former President Joe Biden wrote a life update on Instagram on Tuesday, Sept. 2. She seemed to address her recent divorce filing from estranged husband Howard Krein and her father’s prostate cancer diagnosis.
“August 2025,” she captioned the post. “The Summer of 2025 was one of the hardest summers of my life.”
“I have been preparing for the fall (my favorite season) and now ready for the RISE 🦋,” she continued. “Grateful for the support of friends and family. Grateful that I took the time/space to grieve, process, and heal. Grateful for peace of mind, new beginnings, new seasons, and a rediscovered strength and love for myself.”

Ashley Biden Addresses Her Divorce and Dad’s Stage 4 Cancer Diagnosis
Ashley, 44, included photos of herself spending time with friends and family, including moments in nature with her father.
She has been reflective in her social media posts lately. On Aug. 31, she shared an Instagram Story while walking with Joe, smiling widely in the photo and writing, “Chicken soup for my soul. I feel so grateful for our walks and talks. 🥇 Dad!”
Ashley filed for divorce from Krein, her husband of 13 years, on Aug. 11, according to documents from the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. While she did not make a public statement, she reposted a quote on Instagram the same day: “New life, new beginnings means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before.”
The divorce came three months after she learned her father, 82, had cancer.

On May 18, the former president announced in a statement that he had been diagnosed with “aggressive” stage 4 prostate cancer after a recent checkup.
“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the statement read. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement continued. “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
