A woman turned to Reddit for advice after her husband gave away a package of Christmas cookies that was meant for their family, leaving their children disappointed and her patience worn thin.

The mom, 34, said the situation stung even more because the holiday spirit at her daycare job had already felt low this year — and she’d been trying hard to keep things festive for her kids anyway.

“So today I (34F) got home from work with my three kids in tow,” she wrote. She and her children were excited when they spotted a package addressed to their family name — until they realized it had already been opened and was completely empty.

When she called her 37-year-old husband to ask what happened, his answer only made things worse. “Yeah my mom sent us her Christmas cookies and I brought them here to my work,” he told her, explaining that he planned to bring the rest home later.

The woman said the cookies are a yearly tradition: her mother-in-law sends multiple flavors and types, and the family typically enjoys them for weeks. That’s why she was stunned to learn none of them ever actually made it back to the house.

“Guess the f what,” she wrote, saying her husband later claimed he “accidentally left them there,” even though he knew how much the kids looked forward to them. While she noted she doesn’t personally care for sweets, she emphasized that her frustration was about her children — and what she described as a pattern of thoughtless behavior.

“I do not like cookies and sweets but my kids are gonna be so sad and that’s why I’m posting,” she shared, adding that similar “careless mistakes” happen often.

Worn out by seeing her kids repeatedly let down, she asked Reddit whether she’d be wrong to tell her mother-in-law the truth about what happened to the cookies she lovingly sent.

Commenters were quick to react, with many saying they’d be furious — especially from the grandmother’s perspective. “I’d be furious knowing something I sent for my family was going to some random strangers,” one person wrote, calling it unfair and uncomfortable.

Others questioned the husband’s explanation, saying his plan to “bring the rest home” didn’t add up. “He was gonna ‘bring the rest home?’ What rest?” another commenter wrote, suggesting he may have wanted quick praise from coworkers.

Several people urged the mom to speak up — even if it felt a little petty. One suggested she tell her mother-in-law how much the coworkers enjoyed the cookies and ask for the recipe, so she and the kids could at least understand what they missed.
